Lesson 01 of 17
Overview
Will, EnableUs Community: Alright, welcome back to Navigating PRODA! I’m Will, and I’m here with Winter. Today we’re untangling the whole NDIS portal maze—PRODA, MyPlace, MyGov, all that. If you’re new to this, or even if you’ve been around a while, it can get confusing real quick.
Winter, EnableUs Community: Yeah, absolutely. I still remember the first time I heard someone say “just log in to PRODA” and I was like, “Wait, what’s PRODA again? Is that the same as MyGov?” Spoiler: it’s not. But it’s kind of the key to everything else, right?
Will, EnableUs Community: Exactly. So, PRODA—Provider Digital Access—is basically your secure government login. If you’re a registered provider, a support coordinator, a plan manager, or even a participant who wants to log in directly, you need PRODA. It’s like the front door to all the other NDIS stuff.
Winter, EnableUs Community: And then you’ve got MyPlace, which is split into two sides. There’s the Provider Portal, which only registered providers can use, and then there’s the Participant Portal, which is for, well, participants. Both of those are locked behind PRODA, so you can’t even get in without it.
Will, EnableUs Community: Yeah, and I’ll be honest, when I first set up my PRODA account, it was a bit overwhelming. There’s all these steps, and I kept thinking I’d mess it up and get locked out forever. But then a plan manager I knew just gave me this simple checklist—like, “do this, then this, then this”—and suddenly it made sense. I wish someone had handed me that on day one.
Winter, EnableUs Community: That’s such a good point. And then, if you’re an unregistered provider, you don’t even touch MyPlace. You just invoice the plan manager directly, usually through their own platform—like Careview or Brevity or whatever they’re using. So, it’s not one-size-fits-all. Everyone’s got their own path through the system.
Will, EnableUs Community: And don’t forget MyGov! That’s the big access hub for participants and their nominees. It’s not just for NDIS—it’s for Medicare, Centrelink, all that. But you need it to get into the MyPlace Participant Portal. So, if you’re a participant, you’re juggling at least two logins: MyGov and PRODA. Fun times.
Winter, EnableUs Community: And then plan managers and support coordinators have their own systems too, like SupportAbility or Lumary. It’s a lot, but once you know who needs what, it starts to click.
Will, EnableUs Community: So, let’s talk about what actually happens inside these portals. If you’re a registered provider, you’re living in the MyPlace Provider Portal. That’s where you create service bookings, submit claims, check participant plans, all that admin stuff.
Winter, EnableUs Community: Yeah, and if you’re a participant, you’re in the MyPlace Participant Portal—usually through MyGov. That’s where you can see your plan, track your budgets, check which providers are linked to you, and see every claim that’s been made. It’s actually pretty empowering once you get the hang of it.
Will, EnableUs Community: Here’s a practical example: let’s say you’re a registered provider, you log in to MyPlace, you set up a service booking for a participant, and then you submit a claim when the service is delivered. But if you’re an unregistered provider, you don’t even see MyPlace. You just send your invoice to the plan manager, maybe through Careview or something similar, and they handle the rest.
Winter, EnableUs Community: And for participants, I’ve seen a lot of people get tripped up between MyPlace and MyGov. I had this one participant who kept mixing them up—she’d try to check her NDIS budget in MyGov and get frustrated when she couldn’t find it. My quick tip is: MyGov is just the front door, but MyPlace is the actual room where your NDIS stuff lives. If you can remember that, it saves a lot of headaches.
Will, EnableUs Community: That’s a good way to put it. And for support coordinators, they’re often using their own systems to keep track of everything, especially if they’re juggling multiple participants and providers. But they still need to know how these portals work, because they’re the ones helping everyone else navigate it.
Winter, EnableUs Community: And honestly, the more you use these systems, the more you start to see the patterns. Like, if you’re plan-managed, you don’t need to worry about MyPlace as a provider. If you’re NDIA-managed, you do. It’s all about knowing which path you’re on.
Will, EnableUs Community: Alright, so let’s get into the nitty-gritty—how do you keep all this running smoothly and, more importantly, securely? First thing: use a password manager. Seriously, there are so many logins—PRODA, MyGov, maybe a plan manager portal. If you try to remember them all, you’re gonna end up locked out at some point.
Winter, EnableUs Community: Totally. And keep track of participant numbers too. If you’re a provider, you need those numbers to link participants in MyPlace. I’ve seen people waste hours digging through emails because they didn’t have that info handy.
Will, EnableUs Community: And don’t forget to monitor your claims regularly. It’s so easy to miss a duplicate or an error if you’re not checking. I mean, I’ve done it—thought I’d submitted something, but it never went through. Regular checks save you from those “uh-oh” moments.
Winter, EnableUs Community: Communication is huge too. If you’re a provider, be upfront with participants about what they’ll see in MyPlace—every claim, every booking. It builds trust and avoids confusion. And if you’re delegating portal access, make sure you’re clear about who’s doing what. Early PRODA setup for staff is a lifesaver.
Will, EnableUs Community: Yeah, and here’s a real-life example: I know a provider who almost got locked out of everything—like, days of delays—because they lost their PRODA password. But they’d set up two-factor authentication and kept clear documentation, so they managed to recover access without the drama. It’s one of those things you don’t think about until it happens to you.
Winter, EnableUs Community: Exactly. So, if you take anything away from today, it’s: get your PRODA sorted early, use a password manager, keep your participant numbers handy, and don’t be afraid to ask for help if you get stuck. The systems can be a pain, but once you know the shortcuts, it gets a lot easier.
Will, EnableUs Community: Alright, that’s a wrap for this episode of Navigating PRODA. We’ll be back soon with more tips and real-world stories to make the NDIS portals less of a headache. Winter, thanks for sharing your wisdom as always.
Winter, EnableUs Community: Thanks, Will. And thanks to everyone listening—don’t stress, you’ve got this. Catch you next time!
Will, EnableUs Community: See ya, everyone!
