NDIS Staff Recruitment Fundamentals: Top Platforms for Advertising NDIS Jobs — full transcript

Choosing the Right Platform

Will, EnableUs Community: Hey everyone, welcome back to the EnableUs Community Podcast. I’m Will, and I’m here with Winter. Today we’re diving into something that comes up all the time—where’s the best place to actually advertise NDIS jobs? There’s so many options, but not all of them are created equal, right?

Winter, EnableUs Community: Absolutely, Will. And honestly, I think a lot of people just default to the biggest job boards, but it’s not always the smartest move. Like, Seek is massive—pretty much everyone in Australia knows it. If you’re after a big pool of applicants, especially for roles like support workers or admin, Seek’s a great starting point.

Will, EnableUs Community: Yeah, and I reckon the trick with Seek is using the right keywords. If you just post “support worker” you’ll get a flood of random applications. But if you add “NDIS” and your location, suddenly you’re getting people who actually know what the NDIS is and are in your area. Makes a huge difference in quality.

Winter, EnableUs Community: Totally. And then there’s Indeed, which is also huge, but it’s got that “Quick Apply” thing. It’s good for getting a lot of applicants fast, especially for casual or community support roles. But you’ve gotta be careful—sometimes it’s a bit too easy for people to apply, so adding screening questions can help weed out the ones who aren’t really a fit.

Will, EnableUs Community: Yeah, I’ve seen that too. You get a lot of volume, but not always the right vibe. Now, EthicalJobs is a bit different, right? It’s more for people who are looking for work that’s, I dunno, values-driven?

Winter, EnableUs Community: Exactly. I actually posted a support coordinator role on EthicalJobs once, and the difference was wild. The people who applied were super passionate about making a difference, and you could just tell they’d read the ad properly. It’s perfect for roles where you really want someone who gets your mission, not just someone looking for any job.

Will, EnableUs Community: And then there’s Pro Bono Australia. It’s a bit smaller, but if you’re after plan managers or leadership roles, it’s got a really engaged audience. Like, you might not get hundreds of applications, but the ones you do get are usually spot on for the sector.

Winter, EnableUs Community: Yeah, sometimes less is more, especially if you’re after that cultural fit. And honestly, I think people forget that the platform you choose can save you so much time in the long run. If you’re getting the right people from the start, you’re not wasting hours sifting through resumes that just don’t fit.

Tapping into Community Networks

Will, EnableUs Community: Alright, so let’s talk about something a bit less formal—community networks. I reckon Facebook Groups and local community pages are absolute gold for those quick, casual, or hard-to-fill roles. Like, if you need a support worker to start next week, you’re not gonna wait for Seek to do its thing.

Winter, EnableUs Community: Yeah, and it’s not just about speed. When you post in those local groups, you’re tapping into people who already know the area, maybe even know your organisation. It’s a bit more personal, and you can build up a little talent pool just by being active in those communities.

Will, EnableUs Community: I’ve actually helped a provider fill a casual support worker role in under 48 hours just by posting in a local Facebook group. It was wild. Someone tagged their mate, who was looking for work, and boom—interviewed and started within two days. You just don’t get that kind of turnaround on the big job boards.

Winter, EnableUs Community: That’s so true. And don’t forget your own social media, too. If your organisation’s got a decent following, posting jobs there can bring in people who already get your culture. Sometimes your next hire is already following you, just waiting for the right opportunity.

Will, EnableUs Community: Yeah, and it’s a good way to keep your brand out there, even when you’re not hiring. People remember you, and when they—or someone they know—are looking for work, you’re top of mind. It’s like building an informal pipeline without even trying too hard.

Winter, EnableUs Community: Exactly. And honestly, sometimes those word-of-mouth referrals are the best hires. They come in already knowing what you’re about, and they’re usually a great fit for the team.

Connecting with Tomorrow’s Talent

Will, EnableUs Community: So, let’s look a bit further ahead—how do you find the next generation of NDIS workers? I think TAFEs, RTOs, and unis are a bit underrated. There’s heaps of students doing Cert III or Cert IV in Disability, or allied health, and they’re keen for real-world experience.

Winter, EnableUs Community: Yeah, and if you build relationships with those institutions, you can get a steady stream of people who are genuinely interested in the sector. I actually worked with a uni careers team last year to place students in part-time support roles. It was awesome—they got hands-on experience, and we got staff who were learning and super motivated.

Will, EnableUs Community: And don’t forget about disability expos and job fairs. Whether they’re in-person or online, they’re a great way to meet people face-to-face, which is rare these days. Plus, it boosts your organisation’s profile in the NDIS community. People remember you if you show up at those events.

Winter, EnableUs Community: Yeah, and sometimes you meet people who aren’t ready to apply right now, but they remember you down the track. It’s all about planting those seeds for future recruitment. And honestly, the more visible you are, the more likely you are to attract people who really align with your values.

Will, EnableUs Community: Exactly. So, whether you’re posting on Seek, jumping into Facebook groups, or building partnerships with unis, it’s all about finding the right people who actually care about the work. There’s no one-size-fits-all, but mixing it up gives you the best shot.

Winter, EnableUs Community: Couldn’t agree more. And if you’re listening and thinking, “Where do I even start?”—just pick one or two platforms that fit your role and give it a go. You’ll learn what works for your team as you go.

Will, EnableUs Community: Alright, that’s a wrap for today’s episode. We’ll be back soon with more tips on building great NDIS teams. Winter, always a pleasure chatting with you.

Winter, EnableUs Community: You too, Will. Thanks everyone for tuning in. Catch you next time!
